SAFAR: A journey. Travel.
The musician is summoned by a mysterious inner calling to a life in music. The years of study with a master only equips the musician with the tools for the journey ahead. The road is sometimes difficult to travel and at other times filled with boundless joy. It is a deeply personal pilgrimage in which often kinship is found amongst others on their own paths. Safar is a group of three consummate musicians who have come together on their travels to share in the act of music making. They bring together the traditional music of several countries including India, Pakistan, Middle East and Greece to create a seamless tapestry of sound. Richly layered and delicately textured Anwar Khurshid (sitar/vocal) Demetri Petsalakis (oud/Lyra) and Ravi Naimpally (tabla/percussion) are creating a new tradition of world music. Borrowing from classical and folk traditions, their music moves from exciting rhythmic pulsations to sublime melodies.
